After a break from time trailing over the long weekend, the section and power boats where back in action with the Colin Wilson Time Trialing Trophy on Saturday and the Lloyd Evans Time Trial – State Heat 2 on Sunday.

Colin Wilson Trophy

Colin Wilson was a long time and dedicated member of the yacht club, and his daughters present the Trophy for Time Trialling each year in recognition of his contribution to our club.

The threat of rain with grey clouds throughout was no dampener in the competition for 17 boats that were out time trailing.

PC Mark Nicholas took out the Bent Prop trophy and the Wilson Marine voucher home for his misdemeanour on the water.

Congratulations Guy Skinner and Richard Evans on Thanet for taking out 1st Place with a total of 7 points. They also won least points pennants and where awarded the Colin Wilson Trophy. 2nd Place went to Michael and Maria Cook on MM’s with a score of 12 points (even with Cookie recovering from recent Shoulder surgery), and 3rd Place went to Robin Wilcockson and Carol Wilcockson on Blue Kipper with a score of 16 points. Middle of the fleet went to Claude Mancini and Liz Mancini on Legacy with a score of 23. The wooden spoon went to Brian Culver and Jan Culver on Kerry with a score of 68.

Lloyd Evans Time Trail:  State Heat 2

The 2nd of the CPYA state heat series was held on Sunday morning by the Claremont Yacht Club. With an early start time down at Claremont Yacht club for the start and finish of the event.

SoPYC had 5 boats participating in this event which saw 28 boats from various clubs along the river competing for the prizes.  In the team’s event, SoPYC took out first place and in the induvial results Garry Morrison and Amanda Watson on Lone Star came equal 2nd alongside Ken Stevenson and Elise Manners on Safari II from Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club. Taking out 1st Place and least points was Troy Dalglish and Dee Kelly on Dalusional. They all had a score of 7 points lost, but on a countback, it was Dalusional that took out 1st. The prize winners for the race where also presented with Corica Strudels along with their pennants.

Claremont hosted a delicious after race buffet lunch with selections of roasts, curries, fresh salads, seafood chowder and a multitude of desserts. Throughout the lunch and results they had many raffles which saw lots of prize winners take home prizes including Bottles of Wines, Corica Strudels and bucket hampers with many useful bits and bobs for the boat.
