Unfortunately, the weather was not on the ladies’ side last weekend with the Ladies Skippers event being called off last minute due to the rain, wind and lack of visibility out on the river. It didn’t seem to dampen their spirits too much with festivities and results for the previous week being brought forward earlier and the celebrations in the bar continuing into the evening.
Last week, we had the Dalglish Family Trophy alongside the state heat 6 which was held out of Royal Perth Yacht Club. This trophy represents and recognises the Dalglish Family and their long association and involvement with the Club and Time Trailing. The trophy was incorporated in 2010, and started off as the Frank Dal Auto Trophy. In his 20 plus years of time trailing, on the day of the Frank Dal Auto Trophy in 2010, Past Commodore Frank scored his least points and 1st on the day which meant he won his own trophy on the first year of its inauguration. It was later renamed to the Dalglish Family Trophy when Frank retired and sold his auto business. The trophy features Past Commodore Frank’s boat Ryomi II.
Unfortunately, Frank and Barbara where not able to attend to present the trophy as they are caravaning around Australia at the moment, and are in Longreach, QLD visiting the home of Qantas and the museum. Commodore Troy Dalglish spoke on behalf of his parents and sent their wishes for a great day and week. Being the aviation geek that he is, he was also a bit jealous that he wasn’t visiting the home of Qantas himself.
Garry Morrison and Amanda Watson onboard Lone Star took out the Dalglish Family Trophy with least points and 1st place. 2nd Place went to Graeme Mackay and John Spanos onboard Taj, and 3rd Place went to PC Guy Skinner and Fiona Lyons onboard Thanet. The bent prop for last week also went to Amanda Watson for her self-nomination after falling overboard on their way back from results at Royal Perth Yacht Club.
Ladies Skippers may have been cancelled but we still celebrated in the bar and had some prizes for the best dressed. Everyone looked amazing in their pink and outfits. A special mention for the best dressed went to the crew from Flying Squadron for their Pink Blazers, and Carol Wilcockson from Blue Kipper for her Pink Ladies outfit. The hamper was awarded to the crew from Thanet (PC Guy Skinner, Fiona Lyons and Alex Lyons) for their Pink flamingo theme outfits and decorations.
A huge thank you and special mention to Judy Bailey for organising and decorating the bar and for putting together the hamper for the best dressed team and to Tom and Amy Purden for supplying and setting up the Karaoke machine in the bar with the extra lights as well. It seemed to be a hit with everyone and most getting up and enjoying a tune and some killer dance moves.
This coming weekend we have a double hit of Time Trialing with the Capital Cup on Saturday and then the Kylie Cup (State Heat #7) on Sunday morning which is hosted by Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club.
