As well as the normal Sunday racing we had a very busy weekend at the club. The training program runs in 5-week blocks and we had a celebration Sunday with the sailors from different levels mixing with each other and parents also sailing; 150 sausages consumed….
I see this as an important opportunity for sailors and families to really see the benefits of a club and engage as volunteers and active club members. Sailors can meet potential partners in their next boat; help one another, gain confidence and create more friendships.
Also, the Windsurfer States were on with 39 entries from ages 14 to 72 and weighing 50kg to 100kg, so a very substantial cross-section. Unfortunately only one female entry, long time South of Perth Sailor from the Pelican’s, Jade Lane.
World Champion Tim Gourlay won convincingly. There are a lot of sailors from various classes, Contratulations to Michael Compton on a 5th in his first-ever race on a Windsurfer after just claiming 2nd in the Laser Radial Worlds.
The Windsurfers are a fantastic way to cross-train your sailing and find skills you didn’t know existed, to apply to your regular sailing. Plus it is exciting and challenging learning a new class or different aspect to sailing.
