Little Skippers Powerboat Training Event
Power Section Junior Training Regatta: “Little Skippers”
Early Sunday morning, as dinghies and tenders lined the beach, 31 enthusiastic 11-14 year old participants with parents, volunteers and members from Sea Rescue and WA Water Police, assembled as the aroma of the coffee from the van wafted across the lawns, there was excited anticipation for what was to come. Tracy Leveridge-Smith, in her volunteer role of the Power Sections’ Junior Training & Development Officer and using her vast experience as a professional Power Boat trainer, designed and coordinated the 2020 Little Skippers training regatta. Power Section volunteers gave instruction on skills ranging from radio log on and off procedures, rope and knot tying, outboard motor starting procedure and figure 8 routines and life jackets safety checks. The Fremantle Sea Rescue guys ran the 30 second “sink or swim” and man overboard challenges and flare demonstrations which were followed by the delicious sausage sizzle lunch and presentations.
The section would like to thank all the volunteers with special thanks to Tracy, her husband, Anthony and daughter, Chloe for the wonderfully well organised event.
Bernie Kaaks took photos of each participant being presented with their monogrammed burgee, if you would like your photo, please contact to arrange.
Many thanks again to all the great Sponsors:
