We are looking forward to hosting the Australian Womens Match Racing Championships from 16 to 19 September 2021. Team applications have just opened today and interest has already been received from interstate and overseas. We are also looking for volunteers wanting to be part of the action. Details can be found on the event website by clicking here.

This Sunday, 20 June is Race 5 of The Good Grocer Frostbite Series which also marks the halfway point. Competition is hot with no runaway leaders at this stage. Entry to this event is still open and free. Please scroll down for further event information. Due to the above Australian Match Racing Championship, the final race of this season’s Frostbite series will now be held on Sunday 29 August 2021.

Even though we aren’t racing on Monday, just as a heads up it might pay to tighten down the hatches. It’s going to blow!

Did you know SoPYC has an App? It’s called the Memberpoint App and is available for free by downloading it from the App Store for Iphones or Google Play for Android phones. Have you ever been frustrated being unable to contact a fellow club member? Well we may just have a solution for you. But first click here to find out how you can make your contact details appear to club members.

Attention Midweek sailors: Just as a general bit of advice, following the start and when the RPYC boats are charging down towards Foam Buoy for the first time, do try to keep well clear of that area otherwise your pleasant afternoon sail could turn into a real demolition derby. We want to avoid ugly scenes like this, so after rounding Sampson Spit, pass Foam Buoy (55) to starboard and stay safe.

Alright, that’s it. Let’s roll!     Hey, let’s be careful out there.

Notice to Competitors

Please keep checking here for important race information for both Keelboats and Off The Beach Boats.

WINTER RULES SESSIONS

Keelboat, Off the Beach Boats and Kiteboaders, your Rules session “workshops” commence in June 2021.

Years ago, the rules sessions were Lectures, which later became a mix of Lecture/Tutorial. This year we will be changing to a Workshop/Tutorial format. We have a constant core of sailors who have been advancing their rules knowledge every year & the new format will enable these Core sailors to keep advancing & not get bored.
The “Core” sailors consist of a range of demographics. I would like the experienced sailors to step up and present their tactics and how they use their knowledge & the rules to advance around the course. Then the group can discuss both the tactics and the relevant rules.
The sessions will start at 1800 & last for one hour. It will be beneficial to come to every session as every session will be different & you will be expanding your knowledge from one week to the next. If you cannot attend every week, that is OK, because each week is a stand alone session.
This group has a strong bond which has been created over the years & I hope that experienced sailors who have not attended will come to the sessions to assist & mentor others. Experienced sailors need competition!!!!!
Experienced Sailors we need your assistance so that everyone will benefit and the less experienced Sailors, it is time to get into the heads of the boats at the front!

REMOTE CONTROL YACHT RACING

There is a regular group of Members who meet each Friday afternoon at 3pm on the Western Hardstand for a couple of hours of intense racing and camaraderie.

Visitors are warmly welcomed to sit and watch or even give it a go. You only need to ask.

To register your DF95 yacht for racing, simply use the entry button below and select the Singlehanded classes section.

EQUIPMENT AUDIT FORMS

Skippers, please note that your Equipment Audit Forms have now expired as of June 30. To be eligible to compete in the new season starting from Opening Day on Oct 4, a new Equipment Form must be submitted online. Most, if not all Skippers have had their previous Audit form submitted online via YachtSafe already, so it should be relatively easy to resubmit a new form in time for your first race of the new season and the good news is that you can view your previous form in Past Audits on your YachtSafe dashboard.

YACHT TRACKERS

The ability to replay club fleet races is now available. Try the free Yacht Bot tracking software yourself. It can be downloaded and installed on your smartphone or tablet via an App. If you interested and don’t mind taking your electronic device with you on the water, please let us know. Past races can be viewed using the button below.
