Schedule of Events

Members are invited to review the Preliminary Schedule of Events 2021 – 2022. If there are any changes you feel should be made, please pass your feedback through your fleet representative who will determine whether the schedule needs amending.

As we have mentioned the benefits of using the Club’s Memberpoint App in previous editions of this bulletin, it will become an essential tool for Keelboat racing with the introduction of Crew Sign-On starting from the start of the new season beginning on Opening Day, Sunday 3rd October 2021.  All crew sign-on’s will need to be made via the Memberpoint App. Similar to the current system of signing on all onboard, a list of all possible crew will be saved under your boat profile and all it takes is to tick the crew names for each race. When using the App to select crew, all eligible SoPYC members and Sail Pass holders will be listed. Skippers no longer need to enter names and details. Skippers are encouraged use this time now before Opening Day to become comfortable in using the App. For those without smartphones or tablets, there will be devices at locations within the clubhouse for all members to use, alternatively drop into the On Water Group office.

Sail Pass

With the introduction of the new Rule 46 in the Racing Rules of Sailing, every person that competes in sailing events must be a member of the host club. To facilitate this, a universal system of Sail Passes has been introduced for all sailing clubs nationwide. From Opening Day 2021, any non-members that wish to compete at SoPYC must register for a Sail Pass for every race up to a maximum of 15 races before subscribing to one of the Club’s annual membership categories. The process is very easy and free. Please click here for a brief explanation.

Ocean Races

09 Oct 2021 – Boats are also invited to enter the Centaur Run, a Cat 4 day race between Rottnest Island and Hillarys. It is a SoPYC invitation race and forms part of the ORWA Offshore calendar. Keep an eye on this one – click here.

12 Mar 2022 – Wanting to do the Billy Run this season? The race will be happening on Saturday 12 March 2022 in conjunction with the EFYC D’Arcy race. You know what accommodation is like at that time of year, so if you are planning on staying on the island it is recommended to book now. Click here for the event webpage.

07 May 2022 – Geraldton Ocean Classic revamped. Not only is the race on in a new month of the year but the course has been redrawn. Boats will now bypass Rottnest Island and head straight to the Abrolhos Islands rounding on the western side over the top and into Champion Bay, Geraldton. Still a Category 2 offshore race, however being in May should appeal to those wishing to cruise north in the rally component. Click here for more information.

Attention Midweek sailors: Just as a general bit of advice, following the start and when the RPYC boats are charging down towards Foam Buoy for the first time, do try to keep well clear of that area otherwise your pleasant afternoon sail could turn into a real demolition derby. We want to avoid ugly scenes like this, so after rounding Sampson Spit, pass Foam Buoy (55) to starboard and stay safe.

Alright, that’s it. Let’s roll!     Hey, let’s be careful out there.

Notice to Competitors

EQUIPMENT AUDIT FORMS

Skippers, please note that your Equipment Audit Forms have now expired as of June 30. To be eligible to compete in the new season starting from Opening Day on Oct 3, a new Equipment Form must be submitted online. Most, if not all Skippers have had their previous Audit form submitted online via YachtSafe already, so it should be relatively easy to resubmit a new form in time for your first race of the new season and the good news is that you can view your previous form in Past Audits on your YachtSafe dashboard.

YACHT TRACKERS

The ability to replay club fleet races is now available. Try the free Yacht Bot tracking software yourself. It can be downloaded and installed on your smartphone or tablet via an App. If you interested and don’t mind taking your electronic device with you on the water, please let us know. Past races can be viewed using the button below.
