This is the week for prize nights.

Centreboard Prize Night is this Friday, 28 May and the Keelboat Awards are on this Sunday, 30 May following the day’s Frostbite results. Both presentations will be held in the Ballroom from 6pm.

The third race in The Good Grocer Frostbite Series is scheduled for this Sunday starting at 1400. There is still plenty of time to enter the series. Entry details can be found further below.

Pursuit races! As there is a pursuit race coming up next Wednesday 2nd June, it is timely that the new rule changes be brought to your attention. World Sailing have introduced a new test rule to cover pursuit race starts. To summarize, once the preparatory flag is lowered, a boat has started once they cross the start line for the first time, even if it was just a “test run” or by accident. If a boat does start early, best keep going. Check the Notice to Competitors further below for the recent changes.

As a heads up, Department of Transport (DoT) have begun the process of replacing old spit posts around Swan River with new ones and Sampson Spit (19) is scheduled in for a makeover on Friday 2nd June 2021. Further information on works related to other marks will be forthcoming in future editions of Coffee Pointers.

Attention Midweek sailors: Just as a general bit of advice, following the start and when the RPYC boats are charging down towards Foam Buoy for the first time, do try to keep well clear of that area otherwise your pleasant afternoon sail could turn into a real demolition derby. We want to avoid ugly scenes like this, so after rounding Sampson Spit, pass Foam Buoy (55) to starboard and stay safe.

Alright, that’s it. Let’s roll!     Hey, let’s be careful out there.

WINTER RULES SESSIONS

Keelboat, Off the Beach Boats and Kiteboaders, your Rules session “workshops” commence in June 2021.

Years ago, the rules sessions were Lectures, which later became a mix of Lecture/Tutorial. This year we will be changing to a Workshop/Tutorial format. We have a constant core of sailors who have been advancing their rules knowledge every year & the new format will enable these Core sailors to keep advancing & not get bored.
The “Core” sailors consist of a range of demographics. I would like the experienced sailors to step up and present their tactics and how they use their knowledge & the rules to advance around the course. Then the group can discuss both the tactics and the relevant rules.
The sessions will start at 1800 & last for one hour. It will be beneficial to come to every session as every session will be different & you will be expanding your knowledge from one week to the next. If you cannot attend every week, that is OK, because each week is a stand alone session.
This group has a strong bond which has been created over the years & I hope that experienced sailors who have not attended will come to the sessions to assist & mentor others. Experienced sailors need competition!!!!!
Experienced Sailors we need your assistance so that everyone will benefit and the less experienced Sailors, it is time to get into the heads of the boats at the front!

REMOTE CONTROL YACHT RACING

There is a regular group of Members who meet each Friday afternoon at 3pm on the Western Hardstand for a couple of hours of intense racing and camaraderie.

Visitors are warmly welcomed to sit and watch or even give it a go. You only need to ask.

To register your DF95 yacht for racing, simply use the entry button below and select the Singlehanded classes section.

EQUIPMENT AUDIT FORMS

Skippers, please note that your Equipment Audit Forms have now expired as of June 30. To be eligible to compete in the new season starting from Opening Day on Oct 4, a new Equipment Form must be submitted online. Most, if not all Skippers have had their previous Audit form submitted online via YachtSafe already, so it should be relatively easy to resubmit a new form in time for your first race of the new season and the good news is that you can view your previous form in Past Audits on your YachtSafe dashboard.

YACHT TRACKERS

The ability to replay club fleet races is now available. Try the free Yacht Bot tracking software yourself. It can be downloaded and installed on your smartphone or tablet via an App. If you interested and don’t mind taking your electronic device with you on the water, please let us know. Past races can be viewed using the button below.
