Power Boating at SoPYC

Power boating at South of Perth Yacht Club is designed to allow members a range of choices to get the best out of the powerboat of their choice.

The headline power activity is Time-trialing, where boats compete over a set course based around the Swan Rivers navigational and safety marks, at a speed (knots) which they themselves select.  Points are awarded for early or late arrival at each mark of the course.  The activity has obvious benefits.  Skippers and navigators quickly gain an intimate knowledge of the Swan River and also gain in boat handling skills.  The camaraderie within the Time-trial group is second to none, leading to enjoyable sessions both on the water and ashore.

Many owners who do not enjoy competition aspire to more leisurely pursuits and join the Cruising Section, a composite group comprising of both power and the odd sail craft.  Cruises are many and varied, some venturing no further than the Swan River while others venture as far afield as Geographe Bay and the Abrolhos Islands.

Information evenings conducted by the club from time to time encompass a host of topics which will interest power boat owners – for example, navigation, radio usage and protocols, cruising destinations and so on.

So regardless of your intended use of your precious powerboat, the South of Perth Yacht Club has a niche designed just for you!
