A strong presence at the first Training Session for season 2022 yesterday saw prospective Time Trialing participants receive instructions from some very experienced Skippers and Navigators.
The morning started with a practical session out on the water on ‘Legacy’ and ‘Indiana’ with Troy Dalglish, Amanda Watson as well as Brian and Tina Smith introducing new members to start line procedures and some practical hints for making their way around a course.
The practical was followed up with a ‘classroom theory’ session held in the Heritage Room where Troy and Amanda both delved into their wealth of experience and success in skippering and navigating.
Whilst the introduction to Time Trialing can be somewhat overwhelming at first, the participants no doubt came away from the morning knowing that it’s also a very enjoyable winter sport that gets your boat (and your friends) out on the water regularly in the “off-season”
The 30th of April marks the start of SoPYC’s 61st Power Boat Time Trialing Season. We urge anyone interested in learning about Time Trials to come out with an existing team and see what is involved. Please contact our sailing and power administrator Sharon Skinner at the club for details.
A big thanks to Troy and Amanda for their efforts and to Claudio Mancini (Claude), Elizabeth Mancini (Liz) and Brian and Tina Smith for making their boats available to all who participated.
