A fair number of our members have been using their retirement funds to pay for nice trips away recently and this has left us moving around with lots to do and not enough people to do it with.
However, we can chalk this one up as a win.
The flag box in the starters eyrie has begun to succumb to the constant soakings that it got over the last twenty or so years and a request was made to make a replacement. Ken Baxter thought long and hard and resolved the question using ag pipe and marine ply. It took perhaps five sessions to complete and the starters were delighted with the result. Thanks for the cake and the card, Judi!
Of course, with a new Commodore coming in, you have to polish the bells and in between the Commodores ball and the various Rotary and Probus meetings, this was one of our tasks. Ready for Opening day perhaps?
But that’s not all, a new frame and stand for the TiTu model has brought it down onto the Quarterdeck, much better than having it tucked away upstairs. The buffet table so generously supplied by the funds from the meat raffle has been put into place, replacing an old trestle table and providing storage for all the pull up banners and their bags. We even found the handles that came with it and put them on.
The picture rails for the Heritage Room have been painted and are currently being installed in the Heritage Room and to help the St Ayles skiff rowers, another pair of oars has been crafted for their use. Did we mention the hooks on the bar tables for the girl’s bags…. Done and dusted!
And not quite finally, the brick work at the front entrance has been given a tidy up with Bob Motteram displaying skills he had tucked away in his armoire. Wielding a pair of trowels and a joint rake he has made our front entrance more respectable again. Though there is a lot of work to be done still.
In between all of this we have been able to squeeze in a barbie for the mob and get a bit of a briefing as to what the wish list is from the club.
