And just like that, the 2024 Power Yacht Time Trialing season has come to an end. What a great afternoon it was on Saturday for the Closing Day and the Patron’s Trophy. With an array of colour out on the river we had 19 boats crossing the start line and lots of healthy competition for the trophy and the least points flag. It was also the clubs 750th Time Trial since we began. The Patron’s trophy was incorporated in 1974 and since then, there have been only 4 boats that have won it more then once. Our club patron Colin Cowden was present to hand out the flags and the trophy to the winners.
There where a few nominations for the bent prop this week, however the trophy and the Wilson Marine Voucher was awarded to Michael Cook on M & M’s after he had some issues while reversing back into the pen which resulted in some damage done to the back of their boat. Im sure the Wilson Marine voucher will come in handy for the repairs.
The festivities flowed into the very colourful and decorated bar after the time trial this week, with nibbles being served, and the footy on the big screen. A Big thank you goes to Judy Bailey for her decorations throughout the bar and making it very colourful.
Middle of the fleet this week went to Holidaze (Vern Bailey and Judy Bailey) with a score of 26 points. The Patron’s trophy was won by Lifestyle (Jeremy Greaves and Iva Gayagoy) with a score of 8 points.
Results for this week were as followed:
PORT FLEET:
- 1st Place and Trophy Winners – Lifestyle – Jeremy Greaves and Iva Gayagoy)
- 2nd Place – Illusion – Ian Staples and Kerry Staples
- 3rd Place – Legacy – Claude Mancini and Liz Mancini
STARBOARD FLEET:
- 1st Place – Angel – Anthony Julien and Rita Singh
- 2nd Place – Emily May – Bob Wright and Roger Rowson

We had a 3 way tie for least points lost over the course, with Purrfect (John Cooper and Lynne Cooper), The Dolphin (Jason Claricotes and Caroline James) and Stillwater (Justin Taylor and Helen Taylor) all scoring 5 points lost over the course.
Last place across both fleets and collecting the wooden spoon and the bottle of port was Out on Business (Darryl Wilkes and Mary Vukovich) with a score of 186 points.
It was also our outgoing section Captain Maria Cook’s last results for the season, as after 2 years at the helm she is stepping down as Section Captain. We have our current Vice Captain Jason Claricotes stepping up to be the captain. Maria has worked tirelessly week in and week out for the section (Not only during the Time Trialing season), and on behalf of your Power Section Committee and all members of the Power Section we thank her for her hard work, dedication, and achievements over the past 2 years.
Our section and Time Trialing season would not be made possible without the help and support of the Check pointers each week, as well as our Power Section sponsors. We are grateful and thankful that they continue to help and support the section each year, and encourage all members to support them, just like they support us.
